I want to be free

There are many situations in which we feel deprived of freedom but when we allow our freedom to be taken away by society or our own tribe it hurts the most because it is so unnecessary. And deep inside we know it. We know that we could experience more freedom, but we don't have the courage to act on it. The desire for freedom played a very big role when we were children and especially when we were teenagers, but now we are adults: responsible creatures who have managed to adapt and make all kinds of compromises because.... yeah, why is that? Because we are expected to do so. Because if we don’t act like the people around us expect us to, they are going to be disappointed and reject us. But that’s ok. We are strong enough to feel that we do not belong, but this feeling is not going to last long because once we escaped that prison, we will find our new tribe. A tribe that will let us feel that we already belong there, just because we are who we are not because they expect us to be how they want us to be.

I challenge you to not only wish for freedom, but to face each moment knowing that you have the right to live the life you want to live, without fear, worry what other people think of you or self-doubt.

I challenge you to live and decide according to your own desires and not just because some people think you should.

If you want to be free, you must forget the validation of others. If you want to be free, you must be aware that the outcome might be different from what you have seen in the movies where people applaud you for your strength of character because they think you are a "rockstar” if you dare to be different. It could be exactly the other way around, people might call you childish because you want to change and tell you that this is just a midlife crisis and that you should get a leather jacket and a motorcycle, ride it around for a few days and then pull yourself back together and fit in. But please don’t do that!

The first step to freedom is to start listening to your inner self. What does it want? It is going to take a while until you can hear the voice you have ignored for years, but believe me, there is no greater power than that of deciding your own life and enjoying the freedom you disserve.
